Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel | Review

Aloe vera is a common plant that you can find around places in southeast Asia. Aloe vera is known for its cooling properties, despite its slimy texture- which can be undesirable for some. Aloe vera has been developed into a plethora of end-products such as beverages, desserts, face masks, healing gel, and even moisturisers. I used to have aloe vera as a drink, which is refreshing. Fast forward many years, specifically in 2017, aloe vera soothing gel was the hype. Nearly all aloe vera gel sold out and I wondered why until I tried a tub for myself. Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel was my first ever aloe vera skincare product.

Due to the alcohol contained in the aloe vera gel, I only apply this as a body moisturiser and my opinions will solely be based on that.

The Nature Republic aloe vera soothing gel comes in a 300ml plastic tub. The product has a jelly-like texture that melts once you rub it onto the skin. The tub resembles a clear swimming pool, where you can see the shine from beneath. The product leaves a cool sensation on the skin after application.

There's a hint of artificial scent, which is far off from the smell of a real aloe vera plant. Although the scent is not as enticing as I thought, the texture is the winner. The gel melts on the skin once in contact with the warmth of the hand.

Ingredients: Aqua, Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Betaine, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Extract, Mentha Viridis Extract, Parfum, Peg-60, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polyglutamic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Triethanolamine, Phenoxyethanol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Linalool (*as SC.Aloaceretion Filtrate P.)

As you can see the product contains alcohol and it turns out at the front of the list. Hence, the aloe vera gel contains quite a high amount of alcohol. For those who are sensitive to alcohol, you should avoid using this on the face or sensitive areas. Generally, on the body, I don't find it to be irritating or painful.

The product dries off really quickly on the skin. It leaves a slight wet feeling before it begins to dry. My skin felt hydrated after use. However, this is definitely not a substitute for moisturiser as it replenishes the skin instead of protecting and creating a barrier on the skin.

This is especially great during summer times when the body temperature is heating up, slathering on aloe gel keeps your skin cool.

Aside from being a cooling gel, I find this product to be a great help on burnt skin. There were a couple of incidents where I touched on hot pots while cooking, and I instantly applied this to the affected area. There was a slight pain when first applied to the burnt area, but the swell and redness subsided after a few hours.

I highly recommend you use this as prevention from scarring that can possibly be formed by burns (but use it instantly after you experience the burn for maximum effects!).

I usually apply this product all over my body after the shower as it's the best time when my skin absorbs the most well. I would use a thick layer at night and leave it overnight. The next morning, my skin feels smooth and hydrated.

What do you think of an aloe vera gel? Have you tried one before? I find this to be an emergency product for cooling down the skin as well as a quick treatment for burns. The price point is low and affordable considering the large amount of the product.

Hope you still find this helpful, despite it being an old-released product. Stay safe and speak to you soon x
