Sarawak Timber Expo 2019

My third time around the timber expo was relatively fascinating as I got to talk to one of the designers about the story behind his designs. I guess wearing like a journalist-photographer appeal to some engagement and brief conversation from strangers. I was inspired by the experimental and meticulous designs of each item through the use of natural products from Sarawak.

UNIMAS
Mumbai's wood and natural texture inspire these pieces of furniture. These wood pieces are solid and heavy, made to be practical and functional for everyday use. I spoke to one of the designers and he said the night drawer is designed especially for ladies. The four drawers are for cosmetics; whereas the two huge empty boxes within both ends of the table can be used to put magazines and books.

These award-winning pieces are won during the furniture design competition hosted by Pusaka.

Brown Furniture

These furniture displayed are end-products of wood materials with a touch of human's creativity and design. I especially love the rustic look of the lamps.

POYOD Design
In collaboration with Indonesia, a pool of local young designers came up with exquisite chair designs that have its own story behind. They even created the mini version of each chair as the sample piece before producing a human-sized one.

Rattan and Wood
These two natural resources found in Borneo are made into commercialising products such as chairs, side tables, handbags and floor mat. The designs of the furniture and fashion accessories below are creatively crafted by talented local artisans, which also becomes a mean for their income.

Bamboo
The bamboo exhibit is around a park where all the displays stand around the mini river centerpiece. The lamps that are made out of bamboos feels like a cozy home. There were gazillion products made out of bamboos, such as office table, chairs, dining cutleries, bags, baskets, wallpaper, etc.

House of Acacia
At the acacia booth, there is an extensive selection of home decor or practical pieces that are made out of acacia wood. These wood furniture are also displayed to sell.
