Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel | Review

In contrast to my previous reviews, this time I would like to share a product that is less effective for my acne-prone skin. I'll also be sharing the alternative ways I use the soothing gel that has proved to work wonders. This is solely my opinion and everyone's skin type is different so do listen based on what suits your concern.

First of all, I am curious whether the product is meant to be used as a moisturiser or topical product to cool or calm the skin when needed (probably both). However, I found online that the product is marketed as a daytime product and recommended for acne-prone or oily skin types. They claim to help soothe and relieve stressed skin and potentially fade acne scars.

There is no doubt that gel moisturiser is a great alternative for those who deal with inflamed skin from acne. Before I was introduced to Benton aloe gel, I used an acne-medicated gel (that contains tea tree) to calm my inflamed skin and it worked well. When I initially broke out, my face turned extremely oily and gel moisturiser was my only effective choice. However, as I began to recover, gel moisturiser didn't help as much anymore as I felt my skin barrier was damaged and required more hydration. However, if you have oily skin, it might work well, but I still suggest using a thicker consistency such as a hybrid of cream and gel rather than clear gel for better moisture lock.

During the week that I was using the soothing gel, I was using it as a moisturiser for the day and night. Entering the fifth day of my use, I found a lot of tiny bumps across my forehead. My other skincare products were consistent except for the change in my moisturiser. I knew then that my skin needed more moisture and gel products lacked in providing that.

The product comes in a transparent gel consistency where the gel breaks down into a watery form and sinks into the skin. It feels cooling when first applied to the skin.

Active Ingredient: Allantoin 0.50%
Inactive Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, propolis extract, glycerin, pentylene glycol, zanthoxylum piperitum fruit extract, pulsatilla koreana extract, usnea barbata (lichen) extract betaine, arginine, cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, portulaca oleracea extract, citrus limon (lemon) fruit extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, allantoin, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer.
The ingredient list is clean and I don't see any issue with any of it harming the skin. For those with oily skin, this might be a great alternative if you want a product to cool your inflamed skin down. However, for some like me with dehydrated combination skin, I felt my skin needed a thicker and denser product for better moisture.

So, what have I been using the remaining products for, if not my skin? I tell you this works wonders on burns and aftershave. Sometimes, I get burns from baking or cooking and ice is usually the option, but not anymore with this aloe gel. When I first apply it to my burn, it stinks quite badly but after a while, the burn slowly calms down and with continuous application, the burn fades away. From what I've read on the internet, Benton soothing gel also works wonders as a cooling mask on humid days.

If you have oily skin and need a simple gel cream, this may be for you. However, if you have dehydrated skin like I do, you may want to avoid this and opt for a cream moisturiser. Nonetheless, some have used this as a cooling gel mask and washed it off afterwards.

You can purchase this through YesStyle (International) or Hermo (Malaysia).
