The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution | Review
Are you looking for ways to remove dead skin or lighten your underarms? Or you're looking for natural ways to combat your underarm's odour? After years of using normal body scrubs with minimal results of removing dead skin, I finally found a chemical alternative that works wonders on the skin or body. In this post, I'm reviewing this product on its effectiveness on the body rather than the face, as I experimented with this for my body. I've been researching for the best, budget-friendly alternative to waxing or expensive deodorant to help with dark underarms, and I found glycolic acid to work wonders for many people. As someone who sweat a lot, here are my thoughts on The Ordinary Glycolic Acid.
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid is a water-based toner, suitable for sensitive, acne-prone skin (body). The product also claimed to be water-free, alcohol-free, oil-free, silicone-free, vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. The acidity is around pH 3.5-3.9, suitable for use on the skin for a brighter and clean look.
I find glycolic acid to be an effective exfoliating toner for the body. It targets dull, uneven skin tone, and helps remove dark spots.
After a few applications, I can sense my arms' sweat odour is reduced, and the dead skin is removed. Sometimes, I find it quite challenging to remove dead skin from my body with normal body wash or scrubs (which can be sensitive to skin!), and glycolic acid has become a game-changer in my hygiene routine. It works well on dark areas like knees, elbows and even the outer part of the private area. I find it quite effective on the pimples around my butt area, which helps to heal scabs and post-pimple scars.
In terms of healing dark underarms, as I'm still on the journey of navigating through it, this is not a magic product that can brighten the area quickly. But rather, it takes a longer time to slowly lighten the pigmentation.
The glycolic acid comes in a huge bottle, with a hint of flower smell.
Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Glycolic Acid, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Aminomethyl Propanol, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Tasmannia Lanceolata Fruit/Leaf Extract, Aspartic Acid, Alanine, Glycine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Glutamic Acid, Arginine, Pca, Sodium PCA, Sodium Lactate, Fructose, Glucose, Sucrose, Urea, Hexyl Nicotinate, Dextrin, Citric Acid, Polysorbate 20, Gellan Gum, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Sodium Chloride, Hexylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol
How I use the glycolic acid:
1. Pour a good amount of glycolic acid onto a cotton pad.
2. With the wet cotton pad, use a gentle swipe down or swipe up motion onto the underarm/skin.
3. Repeat the same steps for the other underarm.
4. Let it air dry before putting on moisturiser.
Tips: Best to use it as part of a night time routine.
Can I use glycolic acid on my underarms everyday?
Yes, but for sensitive skin like mine, I suggest using it every few days or 3 times a week.
Can I use glycolic acid on my face?
Yes, but since this is a 7% concentration, I would not recommend it on the face as it can be too strong. If you want to try glycolic acid for the face, start with the lowest concentration or products with a mix of this ingredient.
