Sur.Medic UV Azulene Mild 5.5 UV Protect Sun & Tone Up Sun Primer | Review

I was inspired by a summery picnic for these sunscreen edits to showcase breathability in a good sunscreen is key. As this was gifted from a purchase I made, I thought to give them a shot to test their effectiveness. This is my second try at Korean sunscreen, so here's how my skin reacts to them. If you wish to learn more about the basics of sunscreen, you can read more in this entry

Sur.Medic claims that the Mild Protect Sun sunscreen is:

1. Mild and non-irritating UV protection with low ph formula
Sun essence is developed with a unique pH 5.5 formula and 100% chemical filtration that protects from UV rays without sensitizing the skin or leaving any white residue.
Quickly absorbs onto the skin and helps with any dryness that may occur with sun products.

2. Weightless and skin-gripping
A lightweight texture that grips onto the skin and finishes off with a natural tone, perfect as a makeup base that stays on all day.

3. Azulene sunscreen with a soothing and hydrating formula
Formulated with azulene oil from chamomile helps soothe and calm sensitive skin and offers rich hydrating formulas.
Sun Essence that hydrates and protects skin from UV rays.

4. Natural skin tone with a weightless formula
A lightweight texture that glides on without stickiness, blends effortlessly even when reapplying, and finishes off with a natural skin tone with 100% chemical filtration.

Sur.Medic claims that the tone-up sun primer is:

1. Makeup-gripping tone-up and prime sunscreen
A hydrating sun primer with a lightweight, non-sticky texture that sits on the skin and helps smooth the look of pores and skin texture to boost your makeup.

2. All-day grip
A sheer, lightweight, hydrating texture that helps seal makeup without making it chalky.

3. Azulene sunscreen with a soothing and hydrating formula
Formulated with azulene oil from chamomile helps soothe and calm sensitive skin and offers rich hydrating formulas. Sun Primer that hydrates and protects skin from UV rays.

4. Brighten and improve dullness with purple
It uses a non-chalky, purple tone to immediately brighten up dull skin and correct skin tone to the most natural look.

The packaging was compact and easy to carry around. The flat back surface makes it easy to grip and squeeze out the product.

Here's a comparison of the 2 sunscreens:
The blue version:
  •  Comes in blue liquid
  • A chemical sunscreen
  • Has a cooling effect
  • Quick absorption and not too oily
  • Has a distinct chemical scent

The purple version:
  • Comes in purple liquid
  • A physical sunscreen
  • Acts as a makeup base to cover dark spots and blemishes; smoothens skin texture
  • Leaves a slight white cast
  • Not too oily
  • Has a distinct chemical scent

After 2 months of daily use, I am impressed by the formula as it doesn't stain on clothes and withstand sweat. The blue one has a calming effect. However, my skin doesn't react well to the stinging sensation. I enjoyed the purple version a lot as it is also a makeup base which covers up pores and blemishes.

However, I had a major breakout (a few acnes growing in one area) after using these two together (I maintained my other skincare products except these sunscreens). I couldn't tell if my breakout was caused by either of these 2 sunscreens or both as I've stopped using them. I wonder if the fragrance or other ingredients contributed to my face breakout.

Side note though, if you have less sensitive skin or are less reactive to sunscreen types, these are considered solid daily sunscreens that do what they claim.

As you can see in the pic below, the finishes are lightweight, smooth and non-oily.
